Lucky's Diary - Lucky's Diary
Lucky's Diary - Lucky's Diary
Author: Thao Lam
Product Description
Different from the adventure or travelogue motifs commonly found in prose works about animals for children, Lucky's Diary is a collection of small, true stories that take place in the daily life of 9-year-old Muoi and her 6-month-old dog Lucky. Without exaggeration or trying to sharpen the suspense and appeal, Lucky's Diary tells the story of an equal relationship, a natural bond, a pure friendship and the deep affection that Muoi and Lucky have for each other.
Interesting things to find in the book:
1. Vietnamese family customs
Sharing with the production team about the reason Lucky's Diary was born, author Thao Lam said: "I started writing the first lines of the book when I was stressed because of work. At that moment, it was no longer Muoi's story, Lucky's story, but my own story, 20 years ago, when I was Muoi's age now". Because we were all once Muoi, everyone had a period in our lives attached to a favorite pet, so when reading Lucky's Diary - Lucky's Diary, perhaps everyone will see their own shadow somewhere; perhaps, everyone will laugh when seeing a naughty Lucky being bitten by insects until his face was dark, rolling around and screaming until both eyes were swollen; and perhaps everyone will feel sad when seeing a worried Muoi when Lucky was seriously ill, seemingly unable to survive.
Childhood memories associated with puppies and kittens have been a spiritual cultural trait that has been nurtured for generations by Vietnamese people. We do not consider pets as masters and servants, but rather as little friends to be close to and share with. Growing up, children are taught to use love and sharing to respond to the loyalty and affection of pets. This cultural beauty not only contributes to building an emotional bond between pets and their young owners, but also represents a part of the cultural values - the family traditions of Vietnamese people, values for generations who love nature and love animals.
3. Educational philosophy: Listen!
Although it is a world reserved for Muoi and Lucky, Lucky's Diary has cleverly gone beyond the interactive space of the two main characters to tell another story, a story about the observation, attention and listening of adults for children, and that story begins with very small, very ordinary things that we can easily encounter somewhere in daily life.
As the youngest character in the family, only older than Lucky, Muoi always has the opportunity to express her opinions. The presence of adults throughout the stories is almost only a backdrop for Muoi to express her thoughts and feelings, from her desire to meet Lucky soon, her disappointment with her neighbor and then anger towards herself, to the desire to bring Lucky along on the upcoming summer trip...
Lucky's Diary is not simply a story but also an aunt's concern for her niece. Only by truly loving Muoi can the author pay attention and listen, thereby being able to understand and befriend Muoi. And Muoi is very lucky to have such a relative.
An extended reference for those interested in educational philosophy: According to philosopher Ken Wilber's classification to evaluate cognitive and moral maturity, there are 4 levels: 1. Ego-centric - only thinking about oneself; 2. Ethno-centric - only thinking about one's own people; 3. World-centric - thinking about humanity; 4. Kosmo-centric - interested in all phenomena in our lives from humans, animals to plants (quoted and used scientific terms in the work Teaching children in "confusion", Dr. Le Nguyen Phuong). The purpose of educating people does not stop at the relationship between humans and the world, between humans and humans, between humans and themselves, but should be advanced to a higher level: between humans and all things around them.
